HIRNSÄULE "salto mortale" CD (2010)

Es ist schon einige Zeit her, dass die "Balladen aus der Bretterbude" LP auf UMSTURZ Records erschienen war. Diese Band aus Bremen und Osnabrück empfehle ich Euch PLASTIC BOMB Lesern wärmstens, da die 14 Songs auf dieser CD der absolute Hardcore Punk Knaller sind. Es ist unglaublich, das HIRNSÄULE die 14 Songs live an einem einzigen Tag am 22.11.2009 in einem Studio aufgenommen haben. Der Sound ist soetwas von knackig geil, es ist kaum zu glauben. Und es hört sich alles supergut eingespielt an, als wären sie zwei oder drei Wochen für diese Aufnahme im Studio gewesen. Es ist anscheinend geplant, das die Songs in Kürze auf einer Split LP mit einer spanischen Band veröffentlicht werden. Vorab gibt es die 14 Songs auf dieser CD in einer Kleinstauflage, der sogenannten "Pelmke-X-Mas-Edition", die sich auf sage und schreibe 30 Stück beschränkt. So steht es auf meinem Cover, aber der Labelmacher Thomas meinte es würde noch genügend Exemplare geben. Diese neuen 14 Songs sollten meiner Meinung nach viele Leute zu hören bekommen. Musikalisch spielen HIRNSÄULE astreinen Hardcore Punk, der teils auf deutsch, englisch und spanisch gesungen wird. Für alle Spätaufsteher: HIRNSÄULE existiert bereits seit 1998 und hat definitiv nichts mit Deutschpunk zu tun. Tolle neue Platte!

"Also, ich muss sagen das Hirnsäule mittlerweile zu den besten Bands der Stadt zählen. Geiler straighter, roher und ungeschliffener Punkrock. Kein Song ist unbedingt länger als 1 Minute und das reicht völlig aus um zu Zeigen, wo der Hammer hängt. Blöderweise habe ich dat Cover verschlampt, und kann zu den Songs nichts genaues sagen... Außer dat es verdammt super geil geworden ist. Ein paar Songs sind mit spanischen lyrics versehen und da kommt echt Abwechslung in den Sound. Mich erinnert die Band an alte spanische Bands der 1980er Jahre, mit nem coolen Sänger der einen immer wieder an Jello Biafra erinnert. Live ist die Band eine Macht und donnert in 30 Minuten 50 Hits runter, geil! Diese Scheibe ist bereits jetzt ein Highlight im Jahre 2010. Die Scheibe wurde live eingespielt und diese Energie hört man direkt. Wenn die Band mal nicht durch das europäische Ausland tourt, sollte man kein Konzert hier in der Gegend verpassen! Geile Punkband, noch geilere Konzerte und klasse neue Scheibe! Tipp!"

Ok, so here’s some weird cool stuff if you’re a punk rock fan that doesn’t speak German, but doesn’t mind or thinks it’s neat when others do. From the best I can tell, this release is called “Salto” from the German band, Hirnsäule. The band’s name appears to mean “brain pillar”, which I take to probably mean “spine” … I could be way the hell off. This “disc” was a digital download, so I don’t have any concrete publishing information, so I just attributed it to the band.
On to the music though. Salto contains 15 tracks of DK/Dickies-esque warbling vocal frenzied punk. Some of the tracks are in English, some in German. Honestly it isn’t the easiest to decipher which are which. This doesn’t detract in any way from the enjoyment. I’d venture to guess that the tracks with the English titles are the ones that are done in English. I’ll let you be the judge of that though. www.hirnsaeule.de

The similarity to Dead Kennedys is both apparent and apparently genuine. That aside, the music is quick paced and quirky. The overall feel is garagey with just enough polish to make you want a catch a live show to compare the difference.

This is good stuff and just goes to show that in the crazy digital age, music is more accessible than ever. Maybe that takes some of the eliteist fun out of it, but so what. It’s a big damn world get out there and explore it a bit, even it you never leave your house.
